How do you convert time between time zones?
Convert the time to UTC by subtracting its zone’s UTC offset, then add the target zone’s offset. 9:00 AM in New York on a November weekday (UTC−5) is 14:00 UTC, which is 2:00 PM in London (UTC+0), 7:00 PM in Karachi (UTC+5) and 11:00 PM in Tokyo (UTC+9). Daylight saving time shifts many offsets by an hour for part of the year. This converter uses your browser’s built-in time zone database, so the shift is applied automatically.
UTC offsets of major cities
Daylight saving dates differ by country: the US switches on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November, and Europe on the last Sundays of March and October. That creates a few weeks each year when the usual gap is one hour different.
| City | Standard time | Daylight saving time |
|---|---|---|
| New York (US Eastern) | UTC−5 | UTC−4 |
| Chicago (US Central) | UTC−6 | UTC−5 |
| Denver (US Mountain) | UTC−7 | UTC−6 |
| Phoenix (Arizona) | UTC−7 | No DST |
| Los Angeles (US Pacific) | UTC−8 | UTC−7 |
| London | UTC+0 | UTC+1 |
| Paris / Berlin | UTC+1 | UTC+2 |
| Dubai | UTC+4 | No DST |
| Karachi | UTC+5 | No DST |
| New Delhi / Mumbai | UTC+5:30 | No DST |
| Singapore | UTC+8 | No DST |
| Tokyo | UTC+9 | No DST |
| Sydney | UTC+10 | UTC+11 (Oct–Apr) |
Scheduling across time zones
Find the overlap first
The planner’s green cells show where everyone is between 9 AM and 5 PM. US East and Europe overlap in the US morning, and Europe and South Asia overlap in the European morning.
Watch the date line
An evening call from Los Angeles is the next morning in Tokyo and Sydney. Cards marked “+1 day” flag this.
Mind the DST gap weeks
Between the US and European daylight-saving switches, the New York–London gap is 4 hours instead of 5. Check meetings in March, October and November.
Send times with zones
Write “3 PM ET / 8 PM GMT” or share UTC to avoid confusion.

Time zones: frequently asked questions
2 PM in London in winter, when both cities are on standard time (a 5-hour difference). For a few weeks in March and October/November the gap is 4 hours, because the US and UK change their clocks on different dates.
It uses your browser’s built-in IANA time zone database (the same one your phone and computer use), so DST rules are applied for the exact date you choose.
Pakistan (UTC+5, no DST) is 10 hours ahead of New York in winter and 9 hours ahead during US daylight time. It is 13 hours ahead of Los Angeles in winter and 12 in summer.
Add every participant’s city, then look at the meeting planner for columns that are green (9 AM–5 PM) in all rows. Tap a column to see the exact times.
For everyday use they show the same time. UTC is the precise atomic-clock standard. GMT is the UK’s winter time zone, and the UK uses BST (UTC+1) in summer.
Yes. India uses UTC+5:30 all year. Nepal (UTC+5:45) and parts of Australia also have non-hour offsets, and the converter handles them.
