Marine Body Fat Calculator2026 USMC Waist-to-Height (0.52) Check & Tape Test Body Fat
Marines now screen with a waist-to-height ratio of 0.52 or less (waist at the navel divided by height); above that, a tape test or BIA must show body fat within the age limit, 18–21% for men and 26–29% for women. Enter your measurements to see your ratio, your maximum waist, your body fat estimate and your limit with any PFT and CFT allowance.

How the Marine Corps checks body composition in 2026
Since January 1, 2026 the Marine Corps screens every Marine with a waist-to-height ratio (WHtR): waist at the navel divided by height must be 0.52 or less. Marines above 0.52 get a body fat evaluation by the multi-site tape test or bioelectrical impedance (BIA), and pass if their body fat is within the age limit in MCO 6110.3A.
The change came in MARADMIN 066/26 (February 26, 2026), which replaced the old height and weight tables. The Marine line of 0.52 is tighter than the 0.55 the Department of War allows other services. The body fat limits themselves did not change.
The two formulas
The step 2 equations are the Department of Defense circumference equations behind the body fat charts in MCO 6110.3A. Your official reading comes from the charts or a BIA device, so treat the step 2 number as an estimate that can differ by about a point.
Marine Corps waist-to-height chart (maximum waist by height)
Waists are read in half inches, so this is the largest half-inch waist that keeps you at 0.52 or less. A 70-inch Marine can tape up to 36.0 inches; at 36.5 the ratio is 0.5214 and step 2 follows. If MARADMIN 066/26’s own table ever differs from this one, the MARADMIN table wins.

Marine Corps body fat standards by age
These are the maximums in MCO 6110.3A with Administrative Change 4 (May 2025), which MARADMIN 066/26 left in place.
| Age group | Male max body fat | Female max body fat |
|---|---|---|
| 17–20 | 18% | 26% |
| 21–25 | 18% | 26% |
| 26–30 | 19% | 27% |
| 31–35 | 19% | 27% |
| 36–40 | 20% | 28% |
| 41–45 | 20% | 28% |
| 46–50 | 21% | 29% |
| 51+ | 21% | 29% |
Body fat allowance for high PFT and CFT scores
| Performance | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| 250+ on both PFT and CFT | +1% above your age limit | +1% above your age limit |
| 285+ on both PFT and CFT | Up to 26% | Up to 36% |
Both scores must meet the line. Marines above 26% (men) or 36% (women) go to the Body Composition Program whatever their scores.
How to measure yourself the way the Marine Corps does
- Height, barefootStand straight against a wall, heels together, and read to the half inch.
- Waist at the navelTape level and snug, not compressing the skin, at the end of a normal breath out. This one number drives step 1.
- Neck below the larynxFor step 2, tape just below the Adam’s apple, angled slightly down at the front.
- Hips (women)Around the widest part of the buttocks, tape level all the way round.
Common mistakes
Step 1 uses the navel, which is usually larger than your belt line. Measuring higher makes your ratio look better than it is.
Waist and height must use the same unit. The ratio is the same in inches or centimeters as long as both match.
A 290 PFT with a 240 CFT earns no allowance. Both scores must reach 250 (or 285).
The standard is “less than or equal to 0.52”, so exactly 0.52 passes.

Marine body fat FAQ
0.52 or less. Divide your waist at the navel by your height; MARADMIN 066/26 made this the first body composition check for all Marines from January 1, 2026.
Multiply your height by 0.52 and round down to the half inch. A 70-inch Marine can tape up to 36.0 inches and a 72-inch Marine up to 37.0 inches. The chart on this page lists 58 to 80 inches.
You are not automatically out of standards. You get a body fat evaluation by the multi-site tape test or BIA, and if your body fat is within your age limit you pass. Fail that and you enter the Body Composition Program.
Men: 18% (17–25), 19% (26–35), 20% (36–45), 21% (46+). Women: 26%, 27%, 28% and 29% for the same groups, per MCO 6110.3A with Admin Change 4.
Yes. 250 or more on both tests adds 1% to your limit. 285 or more on both allows up to 26% for men and 36% for women.
For screening, yes. As of January 1, 2026 the waist-to-height ratio replaced the height and weight tables as the first step.
Men: neck and waist at the navel with height. Women: neck, waist and hips with height. The values go into the DoD circumference equations, shown in full on this page.
Yes. The Department of War sets the waist-to-height line below 0.55, and the Army, Navy and Air Force use 0.55. The Marine Corps chose 0.52.

I have not served in the military, so this tool does not run on opinion: the 0.52 line comes from MARADMIN 066/26, the age limits and allowances from MCO 6110.3A with Admin Change 4, and the tape equations are the published DoD circumference equations; the maximum-waist chart is generated by the same code the calculator runs.
