What Is a Black Friday Calculator?

A Black Friday calculator totals a holiday shopping cart where every item has a different discount. It applies each item’s percent off, then any storewide coupon, then sales tax and shipping, and compares the final checkout total with your budget. It also shows your true combined discount, which is usually lower than the biggest number on the sale signs.

Black Friday 2026 Dates: The Full Deal Weekend

Black Friday always falls on the day after US Thanksgiving, the fourth Thursday of November. In 2026 that makes it Friday, November 27. The National Retail Federation counted about 203 million shoppers over the 2025 Thanksgiving-to-Cyber-Monday weekend, a record, so expect busy stores and fast-selling doorbusters.

    How to use it

How to Use the Black Friday Calculator

    1. List every item you plan to buy with its regular price (the “was” price) and the advertised percent off. Use the + button to add rows.
    2. Set the quantity for gifts you are buying more than once, such as two building sets for two kids.
    3. Add an extra coupon only if it applies to everything in the cart. Item-specific coupons belong in that item’s % off field.
    4. Enter your sales tax rate and shipping. Tax is charged on the discounted price, so it shrinks as your discounts grow.
    5. Set your holiday budget and watch the ring. Green means comfortably under, yellow means close, pink means you are over.
    The math

    Black Friday Cart Formula

    Each item

    Item cost = Price × Qty × (1 − Item % off)

    A $899 TV at 30% off costs 899 × 0.70 = $629.30.

    Whole cart

    Checkout = Σ items × (1 − Coupon) × (1 + Tax) + Shipping

Tax is rounded to the cent, the way registers do it.

    True discount

    True % off = (Original − Discounted) ÷ Original × 100

This weights every item by its price, so a 50% deal on a cheap item barely moves it.

    Budget used

    Budget used = Checkout total ÷ Budget × 100

Anything above 100% means the cart needs trimming or a bigger budget.

    Worked example

Example: A $1,677 Black Friday Cart

These are the calculator’s default items. Five products with discounts from 20% to 50% look like a huge saving, but the weighted result is more modest.

    Discounted subtotal

    $1,154.45 from $1,677.00 — you save $522.55.

    True discount

31.2%, even though half the items were 40–50% off.

    With 7% tax

    $1,235.26 at checkout — $35.26 over a $1,200 budget.

Add a 10% storewide coupon and $12 shipping and the total becomes $1,123.74, back under budget.

Why “Extra % Off” Coupons Don’t Simply Add Up

Retailers apply an extra coupon to the already-reduced price. The table shows the gap between what the signs suggest and what you actually get, using a $200 item.

6 Black Friday Money Checks Before You Pay

    Verify the “was” price

The FTC’s pricing guides say a former price should be one the item was genuinely offered at. Use the Original Price Calculator to test a suspicious tag.

    Compare against price history

A 15% Black Friday price can match an ordinary sale from October. Small discounts deserve a quick history check.

    Watch BOGO bundles

“Buy one get one 50% off” is only 25% off both items. Run it through the BOGO Calculator.

    Budget tax and shipping

On a $1,000 cart, 7% tax adds $70. The Discount and Tax Calculator shows the register total for single items.

    Be careful with pay-in-4

Splitting a big cart is easier to approve, but four payments still land before January ends. Model it with the Buy Now Pay Later Calculator.

    Check return windows

Many retailers extend holiday returns, while “final sale” doorbusters may not qualify. Read the policy before stacking gifts.

    FAQ

    Black Friday Calculator FAQs

Black Friday 2026 is on Friday, November 27, 2026, the day after US Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26). Cyber Monday follows on November 30, 2026.

Multiply each item’s price by its quantity and by (1 − discount), add the items together, then subtract the total from the original price. The calculator does this for every item and also applies coupons, tax and shipping.

Multiply the price by 0.70. A $899 TV at 30% off costs $899 × 0.70 = $629.30, so you save $269.70. Use the Percent Off Calculator for single items.

Yes. In US states with sales tax, tax is normally calculated on the price you actually pay after store discounts, so deeper discounts also mean less tax. Manufacturer coupons can be taxed on the pre-coupon price in many states.

When a store allows stacking, the extra percent comes off the already-discounted price. 30% off plus an extra 20% is a 44% discount, not 50%. The Double Discount Calculator shows the exact figure.

The calculator weights every discount by the item’s price. A 50% deal on a $60 item saves $30, while 25% off a $349 item saves $87. Expensive items with small discounts pull the overall percentage down.

As a rule of thumb used in this calculator, 40% or more is a strong deal, 25–39% is good, 10–24% is modest and under 10% is weak. Always compare with the item’s recent price history, not just the tag.

Set a budget before you shop based on what you can pay off without borrowing. The 50/30/20 Budget Calculator helps you see how much of your monthly wants budget a holiday cart would use.

Neither day is always better. Black Friday is strongest for in-store doorbusters and big-ticket TVs and appliances, while Cyber Monday leans toward online electronics and fashion. Price-track the items you care about across both days.

Yes. It works for any multi-item sale with different discounts per item, such as Boxing Day, Prime Day, back-to-school or end-of-season clearance.

Pay-in-4 plans are usually interest-free if every payment is on time, but late fees apply and several plans can overlap in December and January. Model the schedule with the Buy Now Pay Later Calculator first.

Yes. It is free, needs no account and runs entirely in your browser, so the items and prices you enter are never sent anywhere.
